The Other Side
Broken sheds
Plastic wraps
Here I am with a camera in my hand
Cracked walls
Wrinkles under their eyes
And I see them through my privileged side
The wall is too high
The barrier is invisible to the eyes
But now I know
What’s on the other side.
The cold floor,
no blanket to hold
The little hands, The big feet
Droopy smile, sunken shoulders
Is what I see.
The sudden waves of wind
The blanket of clouds
I open my umbrella
Without any thoughts.
So is this the other side?
I say it aloud.
Hierarchy of privileges
Is the answer,
And I know it now…
