Do I know who I am?
What do I want?
Who I was?
What will I be?
People say “just be yourself”...but who am I?
Is being myself accepting my ‘not so perfect self,’ overcoming the expectations I have placed on myself and letting go of the responsibilities I carry?
In the aisle I wonder if I’d ever be content.
In the room, I feel like yet another shelved item, labelled but lost.
In the mirror, I wonder what it is to be pretty, desired and chosen.
Days pass and I continue to feel stuck in time but breaking the shackles of my mind, I rewrite my story; realising that I am for myself to find.
The Annual Production of the Society for Visual Cultures 2024-2025: EYEdentity, a five-episode anthology series, is about much of this. It is identity through the eyes of individuals breathing in this existentialism with you and I.
